Welcome to Year Six!
Your Teacher is Miss Burnham and Mrs Emery is our Teaching Assistant this year.
On this page you will find lots of information about things we will be learning and pictures of us in school.
We will be doing lots of fun activities this term!
In English we will be reading 1001 Arabian Nights and studying play scripts. We will be completing some Big Writing assessments about North American wolves, hot air balloon rides over North America and descriptions. We will have a big focus on speaking and listening skills for our production, including the drama skills for acting parts in the show.
In Maths, we will continue to focus on basic skills in Mental Arithmetic to keep our skills fresh. We will be interpreting climate data in statistics and analysing trends.
In Geography we will be continuing to learn about North America. We will conduct research and find out about the different states and cities. They will study the climate of the region, the population and use mapping skills to give directions using compass points and grid references, as well as looking at time zones across North America. The children will learn about New York City.
We will be learning about Baghdad in AD900 in History, with a RE link to the Prophet Muhammad. The children will learn about daily life in this ancient civilization and how things changed.
In Science, we will be learning about evolution and inheritance. We will think about how animals and humans evolve over time and the advantageous adaptations that result in this. The children will learn about how animals can inherit characteristics from family and study these traits. We will focus on domestic dog evolution from wolves.
We will be doing cookery for our DT work- making meals with a Middle Eastern theme linked to our work about Baghdad. The children will be learning chopping, mixing and slicing skills as well as thinking about nutrition.
The main focus this half term will be our production of 'Aladdin Trouble' in July. This children will be working incredibly hard to prepare for this.
