In English we will read The BFG by Roald Dahl and write character descriptions of our own imaginary giants. We will also link our writing to the Anglo Saxons
Our targets this term will be:
- To use subordinate clauses in sentences
- To revise verbs, adverbs and nouns
- To extend the length of our writing pieces
- To describe parts of speech
- To use expanded noun phrases in our sentences
Our maths work will consist of the daily practice of number fluency. This will take the form of times table tests, mental maths, maths skills practice using assertive mentoring materials.
This term will be focussed on embedding the children’s understanding of place value and investigating numbers to 10,000 100,000 1,000,000
We will also develop reasoning by looking at why questions are incorrect/correct and finding more than one solution for maths problems.
In History we will look in detail about the Anglo-Saxon way of life including looking at artefacts, the work of archaeologist, different burial sites, importance of monasteries and religions. We will also link this with our English curriculum.
Our Science topic is all about forces such as gravity, friction, air and water resistance and will include designing parachutes. We will also be looking at how gears and pulleys and other simple mechanisms work and where they are used in the environment.
In Computing the children will use the Purple Mash scheme with its associated 2-Code units to make their own program. They will also research Anglo Saxon life and the work of a famous scientist.
In DT children will link their work to History and Science. They will design, make and evaluate a well. This will involve a pulley mechanism and be completed in their Kagan groups.
