Today the children have been planting sunflower seeds in a paper pot. They have bought them home to look after and hopefully watch them grow. Below is a growing guide which we hope you will enjoy sharing with your child. We would love to see photos or drawings of your sunflower changing. Maybe you could keep a diary and bring it to Nursery to share (or even when you are in Reception). Remember to give your plant some water.
Step 1 In early June dig a hole and plant your newspaper pot outside in a sunny place where there are no weeds in the soil.
Step 2 Keep watered when dry.
Step 3 In July-September they will grow tall (probably taller than your grown ups!) so support the flowers with sticks or canes.
Step 4 Save the flower heads for the birds to eat. You can save some seeds to grow next year!
Have fun!
