Exploring data in maths

We read the text ‘Each Peach, Pear, Plum’ by Alan and Janet Ahlberg. We used this book as an artefact because it was published in 1978. Miss Crabtree and Ms Van Cook were read this book when they were  4 and 5 respectively.

We decided to taste test peaches, pears and plums. We used the ordinal language ‘first’, ‘next’ and ‘last’. We decided which fruit was our favourite and gathered data. We made a realia graph. We looked at the data representation on the realia graph and discussed it in groups. Which was the class’ favourite fruit of the three options? Which was the least favourite? How many children liked .... the best? etc.
