Year 2

Welcome to Year 2 frown

Miss Shaw is the Y2 teacher and Ms George is the class Teaching Assistant

 

Summer 1

This half term we will be learning about the following things:

 

  English: We will be reading the book ‘Leather Shoe Charlie' and producing writing linked to this. We will also be exploring information texts linked to our work in other curriculum areas. We will be focusing on using different punctuation and using conjunctions. We will also be practising spelling common exception words and developing our comprehension skills.        

 

Maths: We will be revising different topics including; number, geometry, statistics and measures. We will be revising different calculation strategies and exploring fractions further. We will be developing rapid recall of number facts and applying these to solve problems in different contexts.

 

Science: Our topic this half term is Health and Growth. We will be exploring the different food groups and thinking about the different types of foods we should eat in order to have a balanced diet. We will also be thinking about other ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle including exercise and keeping clean.

 

History: We will be finding out about what life in Manchester was like around 100 years ago. We will be using Lowry's industrial landscapes to help find out what Manchester looked like at this time. We will find out what working conditions were like in the textiles mills.

 

Computing: Internet research - we will be using the internet to help with research linked to other curriculum areas. We will be thinking about internet safety during this unit.  

 

Art: We will be studying the work of LS Lowry and recreating artwork in his style. We will be visiting the Lowry gallery to take part in an art workshop and to explore Lowry's artwork in more detail. This will be on THURSDAY 17th MAY.   

 

RE: How should we care for others and the World around Us? This half term we will be reading stories from different religions to discover what we can learn from them about how we should treat other people and how we should look after the environment.  

 

PE will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will be developing ball control during our tennis sessions and developing a range of skills during our athletic sessions. The children will need pumps or trainers for these outdoor sessions. 

 

Homework is given out on Fridays and is due in by the following Wednesday. Spelling tests are every Friday.

 

Remember to read to an adult al least 4 times a week at home as part of our

Reading Caterpillars.
