English

 The Pearl Diver by Julia Johnson.

  • Use varied hyphens/brackets and colons in sentences
  • To identify the and write in different tenses
  • To use figurative language
  • To describe landscapes & seascapes in detail
  • To make comparisons across a range of books
  • To spell all the words from the Y5/6 spelling list
  • To write a detailed diary entry of a mountain climber

 

Maths

  • To draw and calculate angles accurately using a protractor
  • To recognise and draw regular and irregular polygons
  • To read and plot coordinates
  • To translate shapes on a grid
  • To reflect shapes across a mirror line
  • To use and calculate negative numbers

 

Science

Biology: sexual and asexual reproduction in plants; reproduction in some animals; revision of the basic nutrients needed by humans to stay healthy; how some plants and animals are suited to their environments. Chemistry: investigate the suitability of materials for their purpose.

 

Geography

The Amazon rainforest in Brazil and its effect on the world’s eco-system; issues surrounding its conservation; how some farmers have learnt to live sustainably without threatening the forest’s existence; using 6-grid map references.

 

History

 The Vikings and how they colonised the country; the raid on Lindisfarne and interpret sources written from the chronicles of Anglo-Saxon Monks; how the Vikings travelled across the world and the efficiency of their longboats.

 

Computing

 Children will use the 3D Design tool on purple mash to make models of houses, vehicles and other products.

 

 RE

Children will study the history of Judaism and focus on the key beliefs and traditions within the religion. They will look at a Synagogue in detail and study its main features and functions. They will also look at Jewish practices of worship.

 

PE: Tuesday (Tennis) and Wednesday (cricket) - children must be able to remove or tape their own earrings and be responsible for them. Please make sure that P.E. kits remain in school at all times, particularly trainers and pumps.

 

Homework: given out on Fridays to be completed by Monday-Wednesday

Spellings test-Monday

Guided reading- Tuesday

 

Please can you also make sure children have the correct equipment for school:

 blue handwriting pen, pencil, ruler and eraser.

 

PE: Monday & Wednesday (Dance & Dodgeball)  Children must be able to remove or tape their own earrings and be responsible for them. Please have outdoor kit in school at all times.

 

Homework: given out on Fridays to be completed by Monday-Wednesday

Guided reading: Tuesday
