English

  • We will read The Moon Dial by Helen Creswell. Our targets this term are:
    • Use complex and compound sentences in writing
    • To consolidate the uses of parenthesis
    • To write concise factual sentences
    • To write a time travel story based on Moon Dial
    • To write a character description of Miss Raven
    • To spell words from the Y5/6 spelling list

Maths

Daily Fluency practice: mental maths, skills, times tables.

  • To cover the following topics:
    • Kilograms and kilometres
    • Millimetres and millilitres
    • Convert units of length
    • Convert between metric and imperial
    • Convert units of time
    • Calculate with timetables
    • Estimating capacity and volume

Science

Chemistry: carry out comparative tests to assess the suitability of everyday materials for a purpose. Physics: observe and describe the effect of using a pulley, or geared pulleys to lift heavy objects and investigate surface friction.

 

Geography

The Amazon rainforest in Brazil: how it affects our world’s eco-system. We will look at its importance to the world and the issues surrounding its conservation. In particular, we will learn about how some tribes have learnt to live sustainably without threatening the forest’s existence.

 

History

The Vikings and look at how they colonised the country. We will learn about the raid on Lindisfarne and interpret sources written from the chronicles of Anglo Saxon Monks. We will look at how the Vikings travelled across the world and the efficiency of their longboats.

 

PSHRE

 Dealing with change. Children will look at how change (environmental, physical & emotional) can throw up a variety of emotions including shock, fear and denial. Children will learn how change can be a good thing and understand that people often react to situations in different ways.

Sex Ed..

 (Week beginning 1st July) Children learn about male and female body parts and how these change during puberty. Emphasis will also be placed on emotional changes and how to deal with these as they grow older. The school nurse will come into deliver a session looking at these issues and answer any questions the children may have sensitively and in an age appropriate manner. 

 

Computing

Using concept maps, they will work individually and collaboratively. In word processing, they will add tables into documents and add text boxes and shapes.

 

RE

A focus on Judaism and some of its basic principles and customs.  

 

PE: Tuesday (Rounder) and Wednesday (Athletics) - children must be able to remove or tape their own earrings and be responsible for them. Please make sure that P.E. kits remain in school at all times, particularly trainers and pumps.

 

Homework: given out on Fridays to be completed by Monday-Wednesday

Spellings test-Monday

Guided reading- Tuesday

 

Please can you also make sure children have the correct equipment for school:

 blue handwriting pen, pencil, ruler and eraser.
