In English we will be reading nursery rhymes using our class text Mother Goose and we will be reading other fiction texts. We will be spotting the rhyming words and then we will write rhyming sentences. We will be reading non-fiction texts and learning about their features. The children will be writing signs, labels and captions and they will practise alphabetic letter knowledge and order. They will be practising writing simple sentences with a full stop and a capital letter.
In Maths we will be using the scheme: Maths No Problem to learn about numbers to 10 initially. We will be counting objects to 10, reading and writing numbers to 10 and comparing and ordering numbers and objects within 10. We will focus on number bonds and addition and subtraction using different strategies within 10, including with addition and subtraction stories. We will be learning about position and direction, including left and right and using ordinal numbers to describe position.
In Science we will be learning about and investigating materials: naming different materials and learning about their properties
In Computing the children will be logging on to the computer and accessing a variety of programs.
They will be learning about E-safety and about the benefits and dangers of the Internet. They will learn about how we need to be aware of personal safety when we are using it. They will also be using Purple Mash for sorting items using given criteria.
In History the children will be learning about old homes in the past and about the differences between the way we live now.
The children will be drawing from close observation and there will be some curriculum linked art work.
In P.E the children will be doing gymnastics and multi-skills with a P.E coach.
In Music the unit is called Sounds Interesting: they will be exploring how sounds can be made and changed; using instruments with confidence.
R.E is about Christianity – what it means to be a Christian and about the Harvest.
PHSE is about Belonging to a community; feeling safe and happy in their class; feeling good about their strengths; expressing personal opinions; understanding other’s feelings; making choices.
For French the children will learn simple greetings, colours and numbers to 10 and then to 20.
Homework will be given out on a Friday to be handed in by the following Wednesday. Please read regularly and record this in their Reading Record Book in order for your child to move up the Reading Challenge. This has to be filled in and signed by an adult. Reading each night is essential and it is part of their weekly homework. P.E will be on a Monday and Tuesday. If you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to come and see me.
