Spring 2

 

In English we will be reading ‘The Wishkeeper’s Apprentice’ and will complete some creative writing linked to this. We will also read a historical novel ‘Stone Age Boy’ and write our own stories based on this. We will look at how to extend sentences to add more detail to our writing. We will explore different sentence starters to help structure our writing. We will explore the feaures of non-fiction texts linked to our History learning.

 

In Maths, we will be exploring money. We will name amounts of money, including coins and notes. We will add and subtract amounts of money. We will solve money word problems. We will also explore fractions. We will find fractions of amounts and equivalent fractions. We willll add and subtract fractions and solve fraction word problems. 

 

This half term in Science we will start with Biology by exploring:               

  • Human teeth
  • Classification keys
  • Plant and animal fossils

We will then move on to Chemistry and explore:

  • Fossil formation 
  • The water cycle
  • Water evaporation 

 

In History we will continue to find out about life in the later Stone Age by researching Skara Brae and Stonehenge. We will also explore what we can learn about life at this time from Stone Age cave paintings. 

 

In Geography this half term, we will continue to explore settlements by thinking about how Manchester has changed over time and the impacts the building of the Trafford Centre has had on the area. We will also learn about OS map symbols and use these to create our own maps.

 

In our computing lessons, we are going to develop our understanding of using the internet safely. We will also use 2Graph to enter data to create different graphs.

 

In DT, we will be designing and making packaging for Easter eggs or chocolates, creating the packaging from a net and thinking about how to improve and strengthen our designs.

 

In R.E. we will continue to learn about why the Bible is important to Christians today. We will explore how the Bible can help people if they are tempted to do the wrong things. In the last few weeks, we will learn about the Easter story and why Easter is an important time for Christians.

 

Homework, usually English, Maths and any spellings/multiplication tables will be given out on a Friday to be handed in by the following Wednesday. Please read with your child regularly and record this in their reading record, it is part of their weekly homework. (Times tables/spelling test every Friday).

 

Indoor PE sessions will be on Tuesday afternoons and our outdoor sessions will be on Wednesday afternoons. Trainers and a blue/black tracksuit are required for our outdoor sessions, shorts and t-shirt are required for indoor PE.

 

Please can you also ensure your child has the correct equipment required for school: a pencil, ruler, rubber and a blue fibre-tipped pen. They also require a named water bottle.
