Year 3

Welcome to Year 3 smiley

Teacher: Miss Shaw

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Grice

Summer 2

In English, we will be reading ‘The Wind in the Willows’ as our class book and produce various pieces of writing based on this. We will practise improving and extending sentences. We will learn how to punctuate speech correctly.

In Maths, we will be interpreting and representing data in different forms. We will be learning about angles and different lines. We will learn how to find the perimeter of simple shapes. We will also complete some revision of work throughout the year.

This half term in Science we will start with Biology by exploring:

  • seed dispersal
  • animals and their habitats
  • food chains
  • animal adaptations

We will then move on to Chemistry and explore:

  • changing properties of materials
  • exploring solids, liquids and gases

In History we will find out about how life changed during the Iron Age. We will learn about Iron Age hillforts and Celtic warriors.

In Geography we will continue to explore our local area by finding out about transport links, amenities and why people choose to live here.

In RE we will be learning about Christianity. We will find out how Christians worship at home and in church.

In DT we will be designing and making savoury scones.

In Music the children will continue learning to play the ukulele this term. You will be invited to a short concert later this term where the children will share with you what they have learnt.

Homework, usually English, Maths and any spellings/multiplication tables will be given out on a Friday to be handed in by the following Wednesday. Please read with your child regularly and record this in their reading record, it is part of their weekly homework. (Times tables/spelling test every Friday).

Both of our PE sessions will be outdoors (weather permitting) so a suitable kit is required: shorts and t-shirt or a blue/black tracksuit and trainers will be needed for each lesson.

Please can you also ensure your child has the correct equipment required for school: a pencil, ruler, rubber and a blue fibre-tipped pen. They also require a named water bottle.

Thank you for your continued support

Miss Shaw
