How history is taught in Nursery. These children were looking at photos of themselves as babies and how they are now. One child remembered the story he was read way back in September last year about Little Red Riding Hood and its illustration of the character as a baby. History to small children is ‘time passing’ and their experience of it, such as seasonal change, festivals, birthdays etc.
We have different types of scissors...
so children can develop their skills according to their strength and control..
or dominant hand.
Scissor use is an important skill: it develops strength and control.
We cut materials for our art work.
We learnt complex vocabulary such as ‘ bubblegum pink’ and ‘ pale pink’...
‘ dark blue’, ‘turquoise blue’ or ‘pale blue’
We learnt what a spiral was and how to form one.
We built strength using heavier brushes.
We learnt that a snail shell is made of calcium, like our teeth.
Independence and problem solving: how to get at the raisins inside.
Narrative play.
Looking after Cedric and Susan- our snails children found outside
Observing like scientists.
Guided reading with a grown-up.
Pre-writing skills.
Sharing resources.
Independent art.
Imaginative play and developing gross motor skills.
Our new tool for apple slicing.
Ensuring Cedric and Susan have food supplies for the weekend.
Our collage work inspired by Matisse’s ‘Snail’.
We learnt that Matisse found it hard to hold a brush, so he...
used collage instead. He called it...
‘painting with scissors.’
We got Cedric out of his tank so we could look closely at his shell.
We mixed the colour in our palettes..
after drawing a spiral shape- for forming letters a,c,d,e,g,o etc.
