Summer Term 2
In English we will continue to build on our knowledge of various spelling patterns. We will develop our understanding and use of pronouns as well as consolidating our knowledge and identification of the different parts of speech and sentence structure. We will read play scripts, identify their features and then write and perform our own. We will also read, rehearse and perform poetry and then write our own about habitats, linked to Science.
In Maths we will develop our knowledge of decimals by comparing decimals with 2 decimal places as well as rounding and ordering. We will continue our work on fractions in particular, equivalent fractions. We will also estimate proportion. We will develop our measuring accuracy and recording techniques and converting between units. We will work on our skills drawing and labelling axes, plotting points and completing shapes. We will improve accuracy when reading time to 1 minute, complete time problems and converting between 12 and 24 hour clock.
In History we will be studying ‘Ancient Egyptians’. We will be locating Egypt and investigating the significance of the Nile to the Ancient Egypt. We will also investigate Tutankhamen, the pyramids and what we can learn from artefacts.
In Science our theme is ‘Habitats and Living Things’. The children will learn that living things can be grouped in a variety of ways, explore and use classification keys to help group, identify and name a variety of living things in the local and wider environment. They will recognise that environments can change and that this can sometimes pose dangers to living things.
In Computing our topic is 'We are co-authors’. The children will look at the conventions for collaborative online work.
In Design and Technology our topic is ‘Levers and Linkages’ and we will create moving pictures.
In R.E. the children will continue to learn about ‘Following a Christian way of life’. The children will focus on how Christians lead their life and how they worship Jesus.
For P.S.H.E. and Citizenship the theme for this half term is ‘Relationships’. We will look at dealing with feelings of anger/frustration. We will also explore loss, how it makes us feel and how to celebrate lives. In S.R.E. week we will look at keeping safe, making right choices, body changes, gender differences and labelling of body parts.
Homework, usually Maths, English and any spelling and multiplication tables will be given out on a Friday to be handed in by the following Wednesday. Please read with your child regularly and record this in their reading record as it is part of their weekly homework. Times tables and spelling test take place every Friday.
The outdoor games lessons will be on Tuesdays. An outdoor kit is needed for these lessons. Please ensure that your child has something suitable for all weathers. Indoor P.E. takes place on Thursdays. Children who have earrings are asked to remove them and leave them at home on P.E. days or remove them and keep them safe themselves at school. If ears have been pierced recently the children are responsible covering their own earrings with tape.
Your child will need a blue fibre tip pen with spares, pencil, sharpener, ruler and eraser. They also require a named water bottle.
