Wednesday

Phonics: Today we are talking about sounds we do NOT like. Ask your child to think about sounds they do NOT like, for example, stormy weather, barking dogs, car horns and crying babies. Can your child say why? Try to encourage your child to make up simple sentences and talk in greater detail about sounds.

Maths: We are talking about the days of the week. What day is it? Begin to use words such as: 'yesterday', 'today' and 'tomorrow'. Talking about the number of 'sleeps' is helpful at this age.

Continue to rote count (say numbers in order) every day. Support your child to count items tipped out from a small bowl. Encourage 'Kipper Counting' (line up objects and touch count carefully each one)

Other Learning: We are thinking about 'Growth Mindset'. Please use the words, "Not yet" to encourage your child to realise that skills and learning are achievable with practice.

We are practising making large scale round movements to support hand writing. Using the handle of a long wooden spoon (or chopstick/ twig), encourage your child to wrap lengths of wool/ string around the spoon. Use the words, "Round and round".

Sing familiar songs in different ways, loud or quiet, fast or slow. Songs such as, 'I'm A Little Teapot' and 'Mary, Mary Quite Contrary' are popular.
