The children observed that the birds flew away when the school gardeners came to mow the grass and use leaf blowers. The children have been observing birds and collecting feathers and identifying what type of bird they are from.
Note this child's knowledge of grammar in English. She has realised that normally, if something happens in the past we put 'ed' on the end of the verb. She then applies this grammatical rule to all verbs that happen in the past. This is complex reasoning and shows how amazing children are. This is called a 'virtuous error' in linguistics.
This conversation is an example of 'ShREC' (share, respond, expand, conversation). You can draw more conversation from a child using this approach.
