Year 2

Welcome to Year 2 frown

Miss Shaw is the Y2 teacher and Ms George is the class Teaching Assistant

 

Spring 1

This half term we will be learning about the following things:

 

  English: We will be reading the Anne Fine book ‘The Diary of a Killer Cat’ and producing writing linked to this. We will also be exploring information texts linked to our work in other curriculum areas. We will be focusing on using different punctuation and using conjunctions. We will also be exploring the different spelling rules for past and present tense verbs.        

 

Maths: We will be exploring the properties of numbers. We will be developing rapid recall of known multiplication facts and learning the 3 times table. We will be continuing to look at different addition & subtraction strategies. We will also be investigating shape, position and direction.

 

Science: Our topic this half term is Materials. We will be exploring the properties of different materials and thinking about why various objects are made out of certain materials.

 

History: We will be finding out about the events during the Fire of London. We will be looking at sources of evidence including an extract from Samuel Pepys diary. We will be visiting Staircase House in Stockport to learn more about this.

 

Computing: Programming - we will be giving instructions to control the screen turtle using the Bee Bot program.

 

DT: We will be designing and making houses linked to our History topic.

 

RE: Who is a Muslim and what do they believe? This half term we will be exploring what it means to be a Muslim, we will be finding out about some stories about Muhammad and exploring what a mosque is like.

 

PE will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The children will need pumps or trainers for our outdoor sessions. A tracksuit/warm top would also be useful for these sessions.

 

Homework is given out on Fridays and is due in by the following Wednesday. Spelling tests are every Friday.

 

Remember to read everyday at home as part of your homework. Don't forget to practise number facts each week and joined up handwriting. no
